Created by Inocencio Alvarez
and Mannin Garcia in 1875, the romeo y julieta cigar was the winner of
four major international expositions between 1885 and 1900, making it a truly
premium cigar among Cuban cigars. With
its name inspired by the world renowned Shakespearean tragedy and its 7 inch ring
size of 47 called after Winston Churchill, it's not surprising that the romeo
y julieta cigar remains a favourite among the British cigar aficionados.
A
premium cigar particularly prised for it Churchill sizes, the romeo y julieta
cigar has further invested British lore through one of its famous Prime Minister's
negotiation habits. Legend has it that when Prime Minister Churchill would meet
with foreign heads of state, he would carefully insert a straightened paperclip
throughout the length of his cigar. He would then unnerve some of his most notoriously
hostile visitors, thus gaining the upper hand in negations, by slowly smoking
his cigar, letting the ash grow longer and longer without falling.
Acquired
by Jose Rodriguez Fernandez (also known as "Pepin") in 1903, the factory
responded to popular demand by producing more than 2000 different brands of this
premium cigar in over 40 shapes and sizes for its prestigious cigar smoking clientele.
The Romeo y Julieta cigar counts among the most widely known and vastly
popular Cuban cigars to date.
