The Taino Indians called cigars
or tobacco "cohiba". The only brand to go through a special third fermentation
process, the cohiba Cuban cigar is produced from the best leaves on the
rich farmlands in Vuelta Abajo Valley in Western Cuba. Created in 1968 and initially
rolled for Cuban government officials and foreign diplomats only, the cohiba
cigar marks the rebirth of the traditional cuban cigar.
Exclusive
and not marketed widely until 1982 when the cohiba cigar was introduced
in three ring sizes (Lancer, Corona Especiale and Panetela), three additional
sizes were added in 1989 (Esplendido, Robusto and Exquisito). The Siglo series
was added in 1992 to commemorate the discovery of Cuba by Christopher Columbus
- and the introduction of cigars to the world - 500 years earlier.
Only
the finest tobacco leaves are used to create the various types of the spicy, flavourful
cohiba cigar. Two different kinds of filler leaves, the Seco and Ligero
tobacco are aged eighteen months in cedar wooden barrels and supply superb aroma
and slow burning and strength to this King of Cuban cigars.
Truly
a noble Cuban cigar, the cohiba cigar is a tribute to the Cuban tradition
and fine art of cigar making.
